Growers for almost 300 years
The story begins in 1737, when the Monmarthe family bought their first vineyard, though it wasn't until 1930 when Ernest Monmarthe first started bottling under the family name. Each successive generation has contributed to building the estate’s identity, balancing tradition with a forward-thinking approach to viticulture and winemaking.
Today, it is Jean-Guy Monmarthe, along with his son, Gauthier Monmarthe, who oversee the house, carrying on the family legacy with energy and passion as the 6th and 7th generation winemakers. Jean-Guy’s commitment to crafting wines that reflect the richness of their Premier Cru terroir has earned Monmarthe a loyal following in France and abroad.
Ludes, Montagne de Reims
The vineyards are located entirely within the Montagne de Reims, mostly around Ludes, a Premier Cru village known for its chalky soils and ideal exposure. The family farms 17 hectares of vines, with an average age of around 30 years.
While most of the vineyard land is in Ludes, Monmarthe also farms parcels in neighbouring Premier Cru villages. The wines are distinctly of the Montagne de Reims: fuller bodied, vinous, and often favouring Pinot Noir over Chardonnay in the blend, which is evident in their house style: Secret de Famille.

In 2014, Champagne Monmarthe was awarded the Certificate of High Environmental Value. This distinction was given in tribute of the efforts and results achieved by Jean-Guy Monmarthe, and is a reflection of the stewardship and respect he's shown to his terroir.
